The Denver Broncos have stunned the NFL this season with a remarkable turnaround, largely driven by their defense under the guidance of defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. After finishing 27th in scoring defense and 29th in total yards allowed last year, the Broncos now rank 3rd and 9th in those categories respectively through Week 13 of the 2024 season.
This success has thrust Joseph into the spotlight as a potential candidate for the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching role, a position left vacant after the team fired Dennis Allen following Week 9. Joseph’s coaching career includes a prior head coaching stint with the Broncos (2017-2018) and defensive coordinator roles with the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, and now Denver. However, not all feedback has been positive. Joseph faced criticism for his handling of the Browns’ Jerry Jeudy in Week 13, where the receiver set a record with 235 yards against Denver. Fans questioned Joseph’s decision not to deploy star cornerback Pat Surtain II to shadow Jeudy, sparking debate over his strategic choices.
Despite mixed reactions, Joseph’s defensive acumen and leadership qualities have made him a noteworthy candidate as the Saints embark on their coaching search.
